The US Embassy hosts the Anti-Islamophobia Working Group

In November, the United States Deputy Chief Mission hosted the Anti-Islamophobia Working Group, marking Islamophobia Awareness Month. We met with officials from the US State Department and the US Goverment to discuss the sobering reality of Islamophobia in the US and U.K.

We had an honest and open conversation about the recent surge in Islamophobia and how we can work together to tackle this insidious hatred.

It’s moving to see the Biden Adminstration appoint a special envoy on Religious Freedom and Islamophobia - Rashad Hussain - and formally recognise the UN working definition on Islamophobia. The administration has also vowed to develop the first ever U.S. National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia in the United States. We agreed to have ongoing dialogue and work closely on this important subject.

We'd like to thank the US embassy for hosting us and for the US State Department in supporting our working group.

We'd also like to thank Azeem Rafiq for coming to the event and sharing his powerful story and experience of racism and Islamophobia in cricket.
