Ending Anti-Islamophobia Awareness Month, AIWG founder and director, Anisa Mahmood, was invited to the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)'s Faith Centre to speak on how the Government can better engage faith communities.
The faith centre at LSE has a long history of fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting inclusivity. It was great to hear student perspectives on this and Mahmood was so moved by their commitment to better understand different faiths and create a diverse and welcoming community for all.
She highlighted the need for genuine engagement by Government and those in elected positions with faith communities, and to overcome tokenism and gesture politics. Meaningful representation matters and it’s important for those in power to recognise the challenges faith communities experience and celebrate their contributions and success.
The LSE also agreed to formally recognise Islamophobia Awareness Month going forward!
